ARRANGING A FUNERAL WITH SIMPLICITY
We understand how difficult it can be when someone dies, especially if you're arranging the funeral. That’s why arranging a funeral with Simplicity is an easy, straightforward process. Here we've answered some of the most frequently asked questions about the funeral arrangement process.
In which areas is a Simplicity Cremation available?
A Simplicity Cremation is available everywhere in mainland Great Britain including Scotland (this excludes Northern Ireland, Scottish Isles, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands).
Can you take over from another funeral director?
Yes, you have the right to change your mind, even if a local funeral director has already brought your loved one into their care. Just tell the funeral director that you want to instruct Simplicity Cremations to take over. You may be required to pay for the care they have delivered so far. We will work with the funeral director for a smooth and professional transfer of care.
Can I attend the cremation service?
Yes, when selecting the Intimate or Attended Funeral.
Our Intimate Funeral allows a short time in the chapel to say a few words for up to 12 people. You will also have the option to play a piece of music of your choice. The cremation will be held at a CMG crematorium local to the place of rest, at 9am on an available day that you choose (Tuesday-Friday only).
Our Family Led Funeral provides a full-length service in the chapel with a ceremony organised by the family*. We will put you in contact with the chapel attendant giving you the opportunity to discuss the running order of the service. The cremation will be held at a CMG crematorium, local to the place of rest, on an available date and time of your choosing (weekdays between 9am and 5pm).
The Intimate and Family Led Funeral do not offer a formal funeral service or the presence of a minister or officiant, unless otherwise organised by the family.
Can I use my local crematorium?
The cremation will be held at a CMG crematorium local to the deceased’s place of rest. We have access to over 45 crematoria throughout mainland Great Britain.
You can find your local CMG crematorium using our crematorium finder.
Is it possible to view the deceased?
No, once we have taken someone into care, the direct nature of our services mean there is no opportunity for viewing.
Will there be a funeral procession?
No, because the service is managed directly there won't be a traditional funeral procession.
Does a Simplicity Cremation have religious aspects?
Our cremation services are suitable for all religions. We provide the cremation without any religious aspects, allowing you to arrange your own religious service with your faith leader in the chapel or at a memorial at a later date if you so wish.
What will my loved one be dressed in for cremation?
Your loved one will be dressed in a simple gown when cremated.
Are you able to provide a bariatric coffin?
Yes, we can provide a larger coffin at no extra cost. Please let us know if your loved one is heavier than 20 stone or taller than 6’7”.
How can I pay?
We accept payment by debit or credit card over the phone. The full payment must be made prior to us undertaking the service.
Are doctor's fees included in your funeral package?
Doctor's fees are included as part of our Unattended, Intimate and Family Led Funeral packages.
Before cremation can take place, two certificates need to be signed, one by the GP and one by another doctor.
The first form (Certificate of Medical Attendant of Form 4) is generally signed by the same doctor who issued the Medical Certificate Cause of Death. The second form (Confirmatory Medical Certificate or Form CR5) is completed and signed by a different doctor, who will check and confirm the details provided by the first.
A fee can be charged for the completion of these forms as this does not form part of a doctor’s NHS duties. In total, the doctor’s fees cost £164. This covers the cost of two forms and is composed of two payments of £82.
Changes to legislation in 2015 mean there is no charge for medical certificate for any deaths registered in Scotland.
Similar legal changes are being considered for the rest of the UK, so we do not include provision for these fees in our Prepaid Funeral Plans. If medical certification fees are applicable at the time of death, the fees should be paid by the next of kin or personal representative.
*Please note, this process has been revised to reflect the temporary changes to the Cremation (England and Wales) Regulations 2008 provided for in the Coronavirus Act 2020 which came into force on 26 March 2020. The requirement for the Confirmatory Medical Certificate (Form CR5) has been temporarily removed. The amended Regulations and revised guidance will be in force until further notice.
How to register a death?
Before a funeral can take place, the death needs to be registered. Find out how to register a death in England, Scotland and Wales or read our guide on what to do when someone dies.

WHAT IS A SIMPLICITY CREMATION?
At Simplicity, we offer cremation services for those looking for an altogether simpler affair. Whether you’re looking for an unattended direct cremation or a more modern family-led funeral, we can deliver a respectful, compassionate and dignified farewell for your loved one without the high price tag often associated with traditional funerals.
Arranging a funeral can be an expensive occasion that can take a lot of time.
Traditionally you'll need a Funeral Director and a team of staff to coordinate the required services, vehicles and personnel, book the time with the crematorium, deal with paperwork, manage tributes and announcements and ensure everything runs smoothly on the day. And then there are also additional costs for items such as flowers, service cards, music, maybe a memorial or headstone and often a wake. It will usually take quite a few face-to-face meetings with a funeral director to arrange, not to mention several thousands of pounds.
At Simplicity, we provide you with all of the practical and essential elements of a cremation, without the obligation to pay for traditional ceremonial elements that you might not want.
This way you can choose to include only what’s important to you, helping save money compared to a traditional funeral service. And we’ll organise the entire funeral with you over the phone.
Our funeral packages include cremation fees and doctor’s fees - something not all providers will cover - provision of a simple coffin, transportation of the deceased in a specialised funeral vehicle and care at one of our mortuaries.
We take care of the necessary parts of the cremation, giving you the choice to include only what’s important to you, helping save money and hassle compared to a traditional service.
How we’re different
People choose a Simplicity Cremation for a variety of reasons, and often, it’s not just down to cost.
Some people just prefer the lack of fuss and formality that a Simplicity Cremation can offer, and the flexibility to choose how, when and where they say goodbye to their loved one.
Others would prefer to spend their money on a later event where the loved one’s life can be celebrated by friends and family, and instead arrange just a low key funeral in the crematorium.
And in some cases, it’s because their loved one just didn’t like going to funerals, and expressed their wishes for something a little more low key than a traditional funeral so their friends and family did not have to go through the same thing.
Whatever the reason, we will guide you through the process and keep things straightforward, without cutting any corners or compromising on quality of service.
We let you choose how, when and where you say goodbye to your loved one, without being constrained to the traditions of a full funeral. Whatever your reason for choosing a Simplicity Cremation, we’ve got an affordable funeral to suit your needs.
Why choose a Simplicity Cremation?
Every one of us is unique, and our funeral should reflect that. A Simplicity Cremation gives you the flexibility to organise a personalised farewell for your loved one, so you can celebrate their life in a way that suits you and your family.
Our Family Led Funeral lets you arrange a family-led ceremony in the crematorium chapel by choosing exactly the funeral arrangements you want for your loved one, including the ceremonial format, music, visual tributes and selection of a minister or celebrant.
If you do not want to arrange a service at the crematorium but still want the opportunity to say a final goodbye to your loved one in your own way, our Intimate Funeral provides a short time in the chapel for a small group of family and friends to say a few words or reflect as they wish.
We realise attending the crematorium won’t suit everyone. If you’d prefer to organise a memorial in honour of your loved one at an alternative time and location to the cremation taking place, you may find our Unattended Funeral a more suitable option.
Celebrate the life of your loved one in your own way, either during an Family Led Funeral with a personalised family-led ceremony at the crematorium or hold a beautiful memorial service or celebration of life with the ashes at a later date.

Our standards
A traditional funeral can cost several thousands of pounds to arrange. Many people simply do not see the value in some of the often costly, ceremonial elements. At Simplicity, we provide simple funerals that offer a cost-effective alternative with the focus on how you say goodbye.
We allow you the freedom and flexibility to customise the funeral as you wish, so you can hold a truly unique service or memorial for your loved one only including the formalities that are important to you.
Our funerals do not include a procession, the provision of a hearse and limousines or a team of pallbearers and are organised without face-to-face interaction with a Funeral Director, by our team of telephone-based funeral arrangers, allowing us to offer substantial savings in comparison to the cost of the average funeral arranged by a Funeral Director.
By removing some of the more expensive elements of arranging a funeral we can offer low cost cremation services; we’ll take care of the practicalities allowing you to arrange a fitting service.
